Emilien Peytavit earned his engineering degree from École Centrale de Lille in 1999 and a Ph.D. in Electronics from the University of Lille in 2002 for his work on terahertz wave generation via photomixing. As a postdoctoral researcher at CEA-LETI in Grenoble, France (2003–2005), he contributed to the development of microbolometer arrays for terahertz wave detection. Since 2005, he has continued his research at IEMN, first as a postdoctoral fellow (2005–2007) and then as a CNRS Research Scientist. He  led the THz Photonics group from 2020 to early 2026. He is the author or co-author of over 200 publications in international journals and conferences and holds 3 patents.

His main research interests lie in THz electronics and optoelectronics, including:

  • Optoelectronic generation and detection of THz radiation
  • Ultrafast photodetectors with high saturation current
  • Integrated photonic circuits
  • THz waveguides and antennas
