Oleksandr STEPANENKO is working on the TENOR project (Competitive TErahertz and mid-infrared NOnReciprocal components). The main objective of the project is the realization of a compact isolating device for THz and mid-IR frequencies.

In order to achieve this, we have designed MO plasmonic mirrors using small-gap, high mobility semiconductors, InAs and InSb, which can have simultaneously plasma frequencies and cyclotron frequencies in the mid-IR, and a high gyrotropy due to the low effective mass of their charge carriers. A proper design of the MO plasmonic mirror allows achieving an isolation >20 dB at room temperature. Currently, we are working at an experimental demonstration of this isolating device.
