Channel sounder - MaMIMOSA

MIMOSA (Multiple Input Multiple Output System Acquisition) real-time MIMO (16Tx, 16Rx) and Massive MIMO (64Tx, 16Rx) channel analyser. The current model can operate from 1.3 GHz to 10 GHz. Two frequencies are currently available, 1.35 GHz and 5.89 GHz with a bandwidth of 80 MHz. The sounder is based on FPGA digital processing coupled with a computer for data recording.
MaMIMOSA is based on space-frequency multiplexing, which gives great flexibility in tone and antenna allocation. This channel sounder belongs to the new generation of systems based on software-defined radio design. The architecture of the proposed approach has been designed with the greatest possible flexibility, opening up a wide range of applications. In addition, the channel sounder has been designed to avoid cumbersome post-processing:

i) the Tx signal is pre-processed to include the non-linearity of the Tx and Rx chain,

ii) thanks to the FPGA's high sampling rate, a true baseband digital signal is transmitted to the RF chain without I/Q alteration,

iii) the output file gives the transfer function 4.Ntx.Nrx in a versatile binary format. Finally, the sounder's power consumption is low and can be powered by a 24 V battery with an autonomy of 8 hours.

Deposits of organic thin films under vacuum are also proposed (parylene, pentacene,...).
Main applications :

- Real-time characterisation of propagation channels inside buildings,
- Real-time characterisation of propagation channels in a mobile context (vehicle, plane, boat, etc.),

Autres applications :

- Cyber security,
- Detection of falling personnel in a confined environment (e.g. a ship)
- Location in a complex environment (e.g. forest)
- Testing new communications techniques (5G, 6G, etc.)
