Job offer: Characterisation and modelling engineer for RF and power components
General Information
|
The research engineer (IR) recruited will join the "Power Microwave Components and Devices" (PUISSANCE) group of the Institute of Electronics, Microelectronics and Nanotechnology (IEMN). He/she will be recruited on a full-time basis for 12 months from 1 January 2022. The successful candidate must have a 5-year higher education qualification (Master's or CTI-recognised engineering degree) and have skills in the proposed research area. |
Environment and context of the work |
The IEMN is a Joint Research Unit associating the CNRS, the University of Lille, the Polytechnic University Hauts-de-France, Centrale Lille and the ISEN JUNIA. Its equipment for the design, fabrication and characterization of devices is at the highest European level. The institute employs 230 permanent staff (professors, researchers, engineers and administrative staff) and about 150 PhD students. The main activities of the IEMN are focused on micro and nanotechnologies for health, transport, communication and information applications.
For the proposed position, the candidate will join IEMN's POWER group, which specialises in the characterisation and modelling of devices dedicated to microwave power applications. The proposed activity is essentially oriented towards work in the IEMN's characterisation centre:
The IEMN's characterisation centre has state-of-the-art international equipment for measuring small and large signals in the millimetre, sub-millimetre and terahertz frequency bands. The availability of sub-point stations, coupled with the use of VNA, NVNA and SMU, enables the performance of innovative technologies manufactured in the laboratory or by internationally renowned foundries to be analysed. The various characterisations carried out highlight the limiting effects inherent in the targeted technologies and make it possible to model the basic building blocks with a view to continuous technological improvement. |
Missions and proposed activities |
- The candidate will be trained in techniques specific to the characterisation of components, so as to be able to make independent use of the various resources available.
- The engineer's role will be to characterise and model devices dedicated to different applications, ranging from power switching to millimetre range signal generation. The candidate will have to work on the laboratory's various pieces of equipment (DC, sub-point stations, IR camera), and will be required to model the electrical behaviour observed using the ADS simulation software.
- He/she may also be asked to improve the characterisation benches by extending their range of use in terms of power or frequency.
|
Expected skills and knowledge |
The candidate must have a Master's degree or an engineering diploma with skills in electrical characterisation. He/she must have knowledge of component technology.
The skills and knowledge expected are :
- Using VNA and manipulating S parameters
- Ideally, use of specific measurement benches (DC IV, CV, Pulse IV)
- Knowledge of semiconductor physics and applications
- Modelling techniques using equivalent electrical diagrams
- Autonomy and thoroughness in carrying out tasks
- Ability to adapt and work as part of a team
- Good organisational and communication skills
