PARTNERSHIP - VALORIZATION
PARTNERSHIP - VALORIZATION

Industrial partnerships

IEMN is a CNRS research laboratory renowned for its expertise in the fields of electronics, microelectronics, and nanotechnology. It brings together more than 500 scientists, engineers, and technicians across its sites in Villeneuve-d’Ascq, Lille, and Valenciennes in the Hauts-de-France region.
As a strategic R&D partner for industry, it has been working closely for over 30 years with SMEs, mid-cap companies, large groups, and start-ups in France and internationally.
We guarantee excellence and innovation by investing heavily in our technology centres (€20 million by 2030). IEMN has also created 10 start-ups in 15 years, several of which have now become leaders in their fields.
Due to our unique research environment, our scientific activities, and our proximity to industry, we offer concrete solutions to meet the economic, societal, and environmental challenges of tomorrow.

A comprehensive service based on four key pillars

MULTIDISCIPLINARY KNOW-HOW AND EXPERTISE

Our main areas of expertise

  • RF – Telecom – Communication systems
  • Integrated circuits and components
  • Photonics and phononics
  • Microsystems and sensors
  • Acoustics, fluid mechanics, acousto-fluidics
  • Nanoscience and materials engineering
  • Technologies for biology and healthcare

CUTTING-EDGE TECHNOLOGY CENTRES

We have four technology platforms with industrial-standard equipment and facilities

  • The Micro Nano Fabrication Center (CMNF) consists of a clean room (1,600 m² – ISO 5), a packaging laboratory (250 m²), a bioengineering laboratory (100 m²), and a molecular biology and chemistry laboratory (285 m²) at L2 level
  • The Multi-Physics Characterization Platform (PCMP) covering 1,400 m² dedicated to near-field characterization, optics and photonics, RF & mmWave, communication systems, and EMC
  • The SYFRA Platform, dedicated to intelligent transportation (autonomous driving, inter-vehicle communications, cybersecurity), with a 2 km road test track including its own 5G network
  • The Acoustic Test Tank, with a volume of 300 m³, for testing underwater and aquatic equipment, and the audio and vibration laboratory for sound and vibration perception

SOLID EXPERIENCE IN COLLABORATING WITH BUSINESSES

We offer a comprehensive and flexible range of collaboration options: from technological services and scientific expertise to bilateral and multi-partner collaboration agreements, business hosting, joint laboratories, and industrial research chairs.

STRONG NATIONAL AND EUROPEAN ROOTS

IEMN is a member of the RENATECH network. and RFNET networks, which are national technology platforms open to industrial and academic projects.

We are active in several European flagship projects and consortia.

Application areas

  • Telecommunications and 6G: Photonic and terahertz components for very high-speed communications
  • Smart transportation: Vehicle communications, diagnosis of onboard wired networks, non-destructive characterization and structural health monitoring, development of microsensors and actuators, functional materials, and MEMS/NEMS technologies
  • Industry 4.0: Sensors in harsh environments for predictive maintenance, NDT for defect analysis, ultra-low power autonomous circuits
  • Energy: Energy recovery, storage (all-solid-state and fast-charging batteries) and thermal management
  • Health and precision medicine: Bio-MEMS and microfluidic sensors, organs-on-a-chip, 3D cell culture, nanoparticles for targeted delivery of drugs in the human body
  • Neuromorphic technologies: Bio-inspired electronic devices and architectures that replicate the structure and functioning of neurons and synapses

Application Examples

  • MEMS accelerometer using GaN on silicon technology
  • Ultra-high-speed 6G communication operating at 300 GHz
  • Ultra-low-power embedded AI for cardiac arrhythmia detection
  • Chemical microsensor for detecting atmospheric pollutants using standard CMOS technology
  • Ultrafast mid-infrared (MIR) detector for robust, ultra-wideband atmospheric communications
  • Non-destructive testing based on piezoelectric sensors for the detection of corrosion defects using 3D tomographic imaging
  • Characterization of semiconductor components up to 1.1 THz
  • Technical textiles with improved thermal comfort through the integration of metamaterials
  • Hyperspectral imaging for remote sensing and environmental monitoring
  • New materials with Mott-type phase change insulation to improve the energy efficiency of AI memories and circuits
