What are copepods ? Copepods are small crustaceans that thrive in all aquatic environments. They are one of the main components of zooplankton, and are the natural prey of the first life stages of fish and crustaceans. Because of their nutritional value, copepods are a natural, relevant food for rearing fish larvae. However, copepods are still difficult and costly to produce in sufficient quantities to meet the needs of hatcheries.
Bionameris®,** a sustainable feed for hatcheries and aquariums: After a year of development, BioNaMeris® has addressed this challenge by developing an innovative production system for live copepods. These copepods, enriched with natural compounds, are then used as feed for fish larvae, significantly improving survival rates, deformity risk, stress resistance and fry growth.
This project, based in Marquise (62) near Boulogne sur Mer, is a new breakthrough in the world of aquaculture and represents a major French innovation for more efficient and sustainable aquaculture, optimizing fry production for fish farms and aquariology.
