Henri Happy, a passionate and committed researcher has left us
On November 21, the funeral was held
for our colleague Henri Happy,
Professor at the University of Lille and member of the IEMN since its creation in 1992.

Arriving at the University of Lille in the early 1990s, Henri Happy has continued to build a career where research, teaching, and institutional commitment have constantly intertwined. Initially a doctoral student in electrical engineering, he became a university professor in 2002.
Henri was a leading figure in nanoelectronics at the international level and played a key role in the European Graphene Flagship program. His scientific work on high-frequency and flexible electronic devices based on graphene or two-dimensional materials was particularly recognized by the scientific community. Henri Happy made his mark at IEMN through his expertise, his numerous interactions with colleagues, his commitment to research, and his involvement with doctoral students.
Alongside his scientific work, Henri Happy was heavily involved in institutional life. As director of the ENGSYS Graduate School since its creation, he worked to strengthen the links between education and research, and between master’s and doctoral programs. He also served as vice-chair of the ANR’s scientific evaluation committee for micro and nanotechnologies.
Henri Happy leaves behind a legacy as a rigorous researcher who was always available and deeply committed to doctoral students. He leaves behind a considerable scientific and human legacy.
