After the PhD

There are three main potential openings after completing a PhD, these include: becoming a researcher, a lecturer or working in industry.

A carrier as a researcher at the IEMN is possible within the CNRS (Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique). To apply for the post of a researcher, it is necessary to perform a post-doc for 1 or 2 years in a foreign country.

The lecturer is employed within a University. Generally, the new doctor executes a transition year as an ATER (Attaché Temporaire d’Enseignement et de Recherche) and splits his time between teaching and research.

Industrial careers are numerous but are mainly orientated towards Research and Development. However, it is also possible to work in business or management based environments.

The laboratory may also support the creation of start-up companies. Some of IEMN’s past PhD graduates have gone on to launch their own start-ups (e.g. DELFMEMS, MC2…).
