MISSIONS
Microwave optomechanics have been developed for quantum engineering, as it allows to cool down mechanical motion to quantum ground state with microwave photons and to detect small mechanical motion with photons with ultra-sensitive scheme. The main objective of this project is to develop novel microwave optomechanical platform with a large dynamic temperature range, especially in room temperature for practical applications. Based on this platform, we will develop optomechanical devices, such as quantum limited phonon detector and directional microwave amplifiers and study thermal effects.
ACTIVITIES
The postdoc researcher will participate in the microwave/mechanical design, fabrication and simple characterizations of both microwave resonator and Si3N4 mechanical oscillator. In particular, the candidate will be responsible for optimizing the micro/nano-fabrication process of Si3N4-MEMS and the basic RF/microwave set-up for quantum limited optomechanical phonon detectors. She or He will be strongly supported by our engineers in clean-room and characterization center in IEMN.
WORK CONTEXT
The research activities of this project will be performed at the Institute of Electronics, Microelectronics and Nanotechnology (IEMN). The lab is located in Lille, the capital of French Flanders, a vibrant city close to the Belgian border at 50min by train from Paris-CDG airport. IEMN has focused on exploring nanotechnology and micro/nano-electronics for 20 years. It has top level clean room in Europe which is equipped with facilities for nano-fabrications, allowing to transfer designs to real devices. Besides nano-fabrication facilities, IEMN also offers RF/MEMS platform provides equipment for both optical and electrical device characterization. This postdoc position relates to NAM6 group which is consisted by 5 CNRS researchers and has abundant experience in nanofabrication and MEMS characterization.
