St\u00e9phane Dorbolo \u2013 Maitre de Recherche FNRS, Ptyx (Belgique) &#8211; <b>garant<\/b><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h5>Summary:<\/h5>\n<p>Les travaux pr\u00e9sent\u00e9s dans ce m\u00e9moire d\u2019HDR sont la synth\u00e8se de sept ann\u00e9es de recherche centr\u00e9es sur la compr\u00e9hension exp\u00e9rimentale de ph\u00e9nom\u00e8nes impliquant des interfaces libres, des interactions fluide\/solide, ainsi que des effets thermiques. Ce manuscrit d\u00e9veloppe une approche fond\u00e9e sur des exp\u00e9riences simples mais r\u00e9v\u00e9latrices, compl\u00e9t\u00e9es par des mod\u00e8les jouets et des approches en loi d\u2019\u00e9chelle.<\/p>\n<p>Une premi\u00e8re partie est consacr\u00e9e au ressaut hydraulique, th\u00e9matique initi\u00e9e pendant ma th\u00e8se et poursuivie depuis. Nous y examinons notamment le r\u00f4le de la tension de surface dans la formation du ressaut circulaire et nous discutons les limites de certaines th\u00e9ories existantes. Nous mettons \u00e9galement en \u00e9vidence un r\u00e9gime d\u2019oscillations spontan\u00e9es pour le ressaut, que nous interpr\u00e9tons comme la signature des modes de cavit\u00e9 de la couche d\u2019eau pr\u00e9sente dans la zone externe.<\/p>\n<p>La deuxi\u00e8me partie concerne l\u2019impact de jets sur des surfaces chaudes, sujet o\u00f9 se combinent hydrodynamique et ph\u00e9nom\u00e8nes de changement de phase. Nous y d\u00e9crivons les diff\u00e9rents r\u00e9gimes observ\u00e9s : croissance d\u2019une goutte qui se d\u00e9tache en Leidenfrost \u00e0 basse vitesse de jet et r\u00e9gime d\u2019\u00e9jection de gouttelettes par fragmentation pour de plus hautes vitesses. Ce dernier r\u00e9gime est \u00e9tudi\u00e9 en d\u00e9tails et d\u00e9compos\u00e9 en zones\u00a0: zone mouill\u00e9e, zone de d\u00e9collement (film de vapeur), puis fragmentation de la nappe liquide. Nous proposons des mod\u00e8les d\u00e9crivant chacune de ces zones en utilisant des lois d\u2019\u00e9chelles. Nous ouvrons enfin ces travaux sur les effets de l\u2019inclinaison du jet, qui conduisent \u00e0 des comportements diff\u00e9rents, comme l\u2019apparition de r\u00e9gimes de rebond.<\/p>\n<p>La troisi\u00e8me partie porte sur les interactions entre bulles et particules. Nous y analysons comment une bulle pi\u00e9g\u00e9e sous une particule peut g\u00e9n\u00e9rer des forces de r\u00e9tention ou de r\u00e9pulsion. Nous d\u00e9crivons \u00e9galement des travaux men\u00e9s sur des bulles \u00ab\u00a0\u00e9ternelles\u00a0\u00bb, stabilis\u00e9es par des particules et par l\u2019utilisation d\u2019un m\u00e9lange eau-glyc\u00e9rol. Des r\u00e9sultats pr\u00e9liminaires concernant les antibulles armur\u00e9es sont \u00e9galement pr\u00e9sent\u00e9s en fin de manuscrit.<\/p>\n<p>Enfin, la derni\u00e8re partie pr\u00e9sente un ensemble d\u2019\u00e9tudes exploratoires sur les films de savon, en particulier la dynamique de lentilles liquides d\u00e9pos\u00e9es sur ces films, leurs trajectoires orbitantes et certaines instabilit\u00e9s observ\u00e9es. On y trouve une ressemblance visuelle frappante avec des m\u00e9canismes de fusion de galaxie. Ce chapitre se termine sur l\u2019ouverture sur une exp\u00e9rience de jet impactant un film de savon.<\/p>\n<h5>Abstract:<\/h5>\n<p>The work presented in this HDR manuscript is the synthesis of seven years of research focused on the experimental understanding of phenomena involving free interfaces, fluid\/solid interactions, and thermal effects. This manuscript develops an approach based on simple yet revealing experiments, complemented by toy models and scaling-law analyses.<\/p>\n<p>The first part is devoted to the hydraulic jump, a topic initiated during my PhD and pursued ever since. In particular, we examine the role of surface tension in the formation of the circular hydraulic jump and discuss the limitations of existing theories. We also highlight a regime of spontaneous oscillations of the jump, which we interpret as the signature of cavity modes of the liquid layer present in the outer region.<\/p>\n<p>The second part concerns the impact of jets on hot surfaces, a subject in which hydrodynamics and phase-change phenomena are coupled. We describe the different regimes observed: the growth of a drop that detaches in a Leidenfrost state, and a droplet-ejection regime resulting from sheet fragmentation. This latter regime is studied in detail and decomposed into zones: a wetted zone, a detachment zone (vapor film), and the fragmentation region of the liquid sheet. We propose models describing each of these zones using scaling laws. We also open the study to the effects of jet inclination, which lead to different behaviors, such as the appearance of rebound regimes.<\/p>\n<p>The third part deals with interactions between bubbles and particles. we analyze how a bubble trapped beneath a particle can generate retention or repulsion forces. We also describe work carried out on \u201ceternal\u201d bubbles, stabilized by particles and by the use of a water\u2013glycerol mixture. Preliminary results concerning armored antibubbles are also presented at the end of this section.<\/p>\n<p>Finally, the last part presents a set of exploratory studies on soap films, particularly the dynamics of liquid lenses deposited on such films, their orbiting trajectories, and certain observed instabilities. A striking visual similarity with galaxy-merging mechanisms emerges from these observations.
