Les performances \u00e0 basses fr\u00e9quences sont particuli\u00e8rement importantes pour les applications militaires, en raison des propri\u00e9t\u00e9s de propagation \u00e0 longue distance dans l\u2019eau des signaux \u00e0 basses fr\u00e9quences. Les m\u00e9tamat\u00e9riaux acoustiques sont d\u00e9sormais largement reconnus comme des candidats prometteurs pour de tels rev\u00eatements. L\u2019objectif de cette recherche est d\u2019\u00e9tudier les m\u00e9tamat\u00e9riaux pour des applications sous-marines, de l\u2019analyse th\u00e9orique \u00e0 la caract\u00e9risation exp\u00e9rimentale. Cette th\u00e8se pr\u00e9sente des mod\u00e8les analytiques et semi-analytiques bas\u00e9s sur un formalisme de matrices de transfert pour homog\u00e9n\u00e9iser des structures p\u00e9riodiques. Ces m\u00e9thodes sont ensuite utilis\u00e9es dans une approche d\u2019optimisation peu couteuse en temps de calculs pour obtenir des designs de m\u00e9tamat\u00e9riaux qui r\u00e9pondent \u00e0 des objectifs en termes de coefficient d\u2019an\u00e9cho\u00efsme, de masquage, ou les deux. L\u2019ensemble de cette approche est d\u2019abord r\u00e9alis\u00e9e pour des structures multicouches puis \u00e9tendue aux m\u00e9tamat\u00e9riaux \u00e0 macro-inclusions auxquels s\u2019ajoute un degr\u00e9 de complexit\u00e9. Enfin, des m\u00e9thodes de mesure pour bassin acoustique sont mises en oeuvre et valid\u00e9es. Elles sont ensuite utilis\u00e9es pour la caract\u00e9risation exp\u00e9rimentale de panneaux fabriqu\u00e9s dans le cadre de la th\u00e8se.<\/p>\n<h5>Abstract:<\/h5>\n<p>Designing hull coatings for acoustic stealth of submerged vehicles remains an evolving challenge as sonar performance improves. Low frequency performance is particularly important for military applications, due to the long range propagation properties of low frequency signals in water. Acoustic metamaterials are now widely recognized as promising candidates for such coatings. The objective of this research is to study metamaterials for underwater applications, from theoretical analysis to experimental characterization. This thesis presents analytical and semi-analytical models based on a transfer matrix formalism to homogenize periodic structures. These methods are then used in a computationally inexpensive optimization approach to obtain metamaterial designs that meet objectives in terms of anechoic coefficient, masking, or both. The whole approach is first performed for multilayer structures and then extended to macro-inclusion metamaterials to which a degree of complexity is added. Finally, measurement methods for acoustic basins are implemented and validated.
