teacher-researcher at the IEMN, has been named a <strong>senior member<\/strong> of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.iufrance.fr\/\">Institut Universitaire de France<\/a> in the <strong>Innovation category<\/strong> for his work on <strong>miniaturized energy storage<\/strong>. This is no mean feat! First of all, this is <strong>a first for the laboratory in the senior category<\/strong>!<br \/>\nSecondly, the application file is impressive: evaluated by an international jury and accompanied by two letters of recommendation, it includes several important sections: <strong>a<\/strong> <strong>research report<\/strong> and a <strong>teaching report<\/strong>; <strong>an ERC pre-project<\/strong> and <strong>a pedagogical innovation project<\/strong> must also appear in the file.<a href=\"https:\/\/www.iemn.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/vignette_news7.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-46054 alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/www.iemn.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/vignette_news7.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"149\" height=\"112\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.iemn.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/vignette_news7.jpg 218w, https:\/\/www.iemn.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/vignette_news7-16x12.jpg 16w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 149px) 100vw, 149px\" \/><\/a><br \/>\nThis award is the result of <strong>a bold career path and strategic research<\/strong> patiently carried out. After a thesis at the IEMN in 2004 in optoelectronics and photonics, under the supervision of <strong>Jean-Pierre Vilcot<\/strong> (DR CNRS), Christophe was recruited for three years at the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rma.ac.be\/fr\/homepage\">Royal Military School of Brussels<\/a> as a researcher in photonics. In 2007, it was time for our young lecturer to move to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.iemn.fr\/en\/la-recherche\/les-groupes\/groupe-csam\/\">CSAM group<\/a> (IEMN).<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>\u00ab I then learned how to make energy storage micro-devices by starting from a blank sheet of paper on the fabrication and characterization side! My new theme started to swarm between 2012 and 2015, which allowed IEMN to integrate the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.energie-rs2e.com\/fr\">French Network on Electrochemical Energy Storage<\/a> (RS2E). In 2017, I obtained a Cong\u00e9 Recherche et Conversion Th\u00e9matique (CRCT) with a mobility in Nantes to strengthen my knowledge in electrochemistry.\u00a0\u00bb<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<div id=\"attachment_46732\" style=\"width: 172px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.iemn.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/tech2.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-46732\" class=\"wp-image-46732\" src=\"https:\/\/www.iemn.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/tech2-180x180.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"162\" height=\"162\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.iemn.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/tech2-180x180.jpg 180w, https:\/\/www.iemn.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/tech2-80x80.jpg 80w, https:\/\/www.iemn.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/tech2-36x36.jpg 36w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 162px) 100vw, 162px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-46732\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Array of 3D micro-tubes machined in a silicon substrate. This \u00ab\u00a0carpet\u00a0\u00bb of micro-tubes is then covered with Pt (current collectors) and MnO2 (active materials) IEMN\/IMN<\/p><\/div>\n<p>It is with restrained pride that he tells us his great satisfaction: \u00ab <strong>it will allow me to do nice things \u00bb<\/strong>. Indeed, the IUF status from October 1, 2021, will provide him with financial resources of 15,000 euros for research during five years and a teaching release of 2\/3 of his annual quota.<\/p>\n<p>Our IUF member plans to create components incorporating <strong>new materials<\/strong> such as <strong>ternary transition metal nitrides<\/strong> which are <strong>3-element alloys with one element being nitrogen (N)<\/strong>. He plans to integrate these new materials into other storage devices such as electrochemical or electrolytic micro-capacitors and micro-supercapacitors (MSCs).<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>\u00ab I will be able to strengthen our results. I have put together the file, paying <strong>great attention to the human resources aspect<\/strong>. A great team of dynamic young people is already involved in this project, and others will be joining us soon. Moreover, the prize reinforces the innovation part brought by Maxime.\u00a0\u00bb<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><strong>Maxime Hallot<\/strong>, Christophe\u2019s former PhD student at IEMN won <a href=\"https:\/\/www.iemn.fr\/en\/a-la-une\/43117.html\/\">a national C\u2019Nano award<\/a> in 2020 for his thesis work and its applications <strong>in the field of micro energy storage<\/strong>. Maxime has designed <strong>miniature batteries based on an alloy of lithium materials<\/strong>. They are very solid and are developed in 3D architecture, for a large storage capacity. His innovation has led to <strong>a patent application via the RS2E<\/strong>, of which IEMN is a member, and a startup is planned.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>\u00ab Our development time in research is long and we try to devote time to the collective, so <strong>when a young person like Maxime wants to bring an ambitious project to maturity, we are behind him 100%!<\/strong> Moreover, all this
