id=\"caption-attachment-37935\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Prof. Alain CAPPY<\/p><\/div>\n<p><strong>Professor Alain Cappy received the Outstanding Award, an individual prize of great international renown for an exemplary career in the field of microwaves, awarded as part of the<a href=\"https:\/\/www.eumweek.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">EuMW<\/a> by the<a href=\"https:\/\/www.eumwa.org\/en\/euma\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">EuMA<\/a>- Porte de Versailles on 1 October 2019.<\/strong> <\/p>\n<\/div><\/section> <section  class='av_textblock_section av-k19a9za2-e705c37a18d29ff81e1df514ec8d2880'   itemscope=\"itemscope\" itemtype=\"https:\/\/schema.org\/BlogPosting\" itemprop=\"blogPost\" ><div class='avia_textblock'  itemprop=\"text\" ><p> In 1977, Alain Cappy joined the Semiconductor and Microwave Centre, former name of the Institute of Electronics, Microelectronics and Nanotechnology (IEMN), a joined research unit between CNRS and the University of Lille, the Universit\u00e9 Polytechnique de Valenciennes, ISEN-Yncrea Lille and Centrale Lille. He received the PhD and the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.iemn.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/10\/These_A_Cappy.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Doctor of Science<\/a> degrees from the University of Lille, in 1981 and 1986 respectively. He is now Professor Emeritus of Electronics an Electrical Engineering.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_37951\" style=\"width: 201px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.iemn.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/10\/FET_1984_vl.gif\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-37951\" class=\"wp-image-37951\" src=\"https:\/\/www.iemn.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/10\/FET_1984_vl.gif\" alt=\"\" width=\"191\" height=\"149\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-37951\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">1984 : FET<\/p><\/div>\n<p>For more than 30 years, his research interests were concerned with the modelling, fabrication and characterisation of low noise Field Effect Transistors based on III-V materials. He was an actor of the amazing FET revolution that began in the early 1980s with the development of AlGaAs\/GaAs heterostuctures showing high mobility 2D electron gas. Afterwards, he was involved in the modelling, design and fabrication of strained layer PM-HEMT, InP HEMT, InAs-AlSb-HEMT and even THz-HEMT based on plasma oscillations. He is the author or co-author of about 200 scientific papers and communications and he gave 25 invited papers in international conferences and workshops. He was the supervisor of 25 PhD students and he participated in more than 140 PhD thesis and 'Habilitation' committees. Since 2010, he completely change his research field to work on <a href=\"https:\/\/insis.cnrs.fr\/fr\/cnrsinfo\/un-neurone-artificiel-mille-fois-plus-econome-en-energie-quun-neurone-biologique\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">artificial neurons<\/a> and neuro-inspired circuits for information processing and medical applications.  In parallel with this scientific activity, he has worked from 2002 to 2010 as the director of IEMN, a research institute that gathers more than 250 scientists and 160 PhD students. From 2010 to 2014, he was appointed as the director of IRCICA, a laboratory specifically created by CNRS and the University of Lille to promote interdisciplinary research. The <strong>Distinguished Service Award <\/strong>to recognize an individual who has given outstanding service for the benefit of the European microwave community and, in particular, for the advancement of the European Microwave Association. The <strong>Outstanding Career Award <\/strong>to recognize an individual whose career has exemplified outstanding achievements in the field of Microwaves. The <strong>Pioneer Award <\/strong>to recognize an individual who is responsible for a noteworthy advance in the field of microwaves which has had a lasting and significant effect on the microwave
